Homeowners and Realtors Win On Short Sale Tax Issues

REALTORS® WIN ON SHORT SALE ISSUE!
REALTORS® won a victory this week on the payment of doc stamps in a short sale. At issue was whether doc stamps owed on the deed in a short sale should be paid on the amount paid by the buyer, or on the amount paid by the buyer plus debts forgiven by the bank. The doc stamps should be paid on the lower amount and NOT the amount plus the forgiven amount by the lender in an arm's length transaction between the three parties.
